eBay..Market Choices,Doris on Plastic noses and Kidneys?
Hi Ed WeBBers,
Perhaps you’ve seen the film ‘Lord OfWar’, starring Nicholas Cage?
I’d imagine you could buy the DVD for peanuts off eBay…
It’s about a Russian arms dealer (played by Nicolas Cage) who sets out to make his fortune selling weapons all over the globe.
(Probably not something you or I would try and ‘trade’ in – not on eBay anyway – but there we go).
The main character at one point
tries to quit arms dealing.
He tries to go straight.
Ed…. why would anyone want to sell arms, theres more money to be made from kidneys and plastic noses?
WELL…Doris, thats true but have you tried to pull yourself out of the bath with a plastic nose and a kidney on your head!
SHE HAS A POINT THOUGH..
AHEM.ONWARDS..
Cage (as a voiceover) then says…
“That’s the problem with legal businesses.
The margins are too small.
Everyone else is already doing it!”
That scene made me smile – a little.
Why?
Because there’s some truth to it.
It’s like on eBay – if you insist on going into a ‘normal’ market, selling products everyone else thinks of, and do exactly what
everyone else is doing – then your ‘profits’ probably won’t be anything out of the ordinary.
No…because to get those great returns you have to think a bit differently than the ‘crowd’…
(that damn crowd)
That may mean you choose a certain ‘type’ of product…
For example, in past references I’ve mentioned both ‘private-label’ type products as well as ‘information’ based products.
Both offer higher-margins than the norm.
Or maybe it’ll mean just going into a market where few other sellers operate, with a unique product that no-one else is selling.
Compare that strategy with the ‘I’ll sell Ipods like everyone else’ and I can guarantee you’ll see the difference in your percentage returns.
OK, so we might not all want to be ‘arms’dealers.
But by concentrating on certain products, and off-the-beaten-track markets, we might get returns that are (somewhere!) close.
And what about combining both approaches?
For example – selling information products in an ‘off-the-beaten-track’ market.
(An information product for people wanting to be arms dealers?)
That combo may well see returns that make most ‘conventional’ eBay businesses scream for their AK-47′s!
AHH..wheres me book..

Hi Ed,
Good points made. Research throws up popular targets but everyone wil be getting the same results, won’t they.
Enjoy the journey.

Hi Ed,
Very interesting and informative! I guess the real key is to be lucky enough to find that special item that will be “hot” that not a lot of others have tapped into yet.
Sound logic…great advice!
I see you are using the MaxBlog Optin Adder too…;)
I love it..;)

Hi Mandy,
The best success is to find a HOT little niche within a larger HOT market for regular sales and least competition!
Ed.
