You might have seen the TV programme about
this – it’s literally called “I’m running
Sainsbury’s” and it’s actually pretty
good.

Ed….YOU, couldn`t run a race?

ANYWAY!

It was on last night and also last week.

It’s last week’s episode though that was
most interesting to me though…

Basically…what happens is that a member
of the Sainsbury’s staff gets to implement
a new idea to help a particular store.

From there, if it ‘works out’, then they
think about rolling it out across all stores
nationwide.

Last week’s ‘idea’: an ‘in-store’ salesperson
who goes around with ‘special deals’ for customers.

For example, a special deal on teacakes.

They walk up to people and ASK if they want
to take advantage of the special offer, and
also announce it on the tannoy ‘in store’.

And guess what…

It seemed to work VERY well – sales definitely
increased. The reason? Simple! They just ASKED
people if they wanted the ‘special offer of
the day’!

Previously, the ‘special offer’ was frequently
hidden away. People just didn’t see it, and hence
didn’t take advantage of it.

But by announcing it and approaching people with
the offer, sales simply sky-rocketed.

My point in relation to your eBaying?

Simple…peeps!

How many buyers of YOUR products actually know
about WHAT ELSE you sell (including any ‘special
deals’ you’re currently running)?

I can probably guess: close to zero!

And if you’ve got a ‘related’ product line, then
this is definitely hurting sales.

The solution?

Emails to customers after they’ve just bought
something from you.

Letting ‘em know what else you’ve got.

And, letting them know of any special deals you’re
running.

This ‘further communication’ is virtually guaranteed
to increase sales – just like it’s doing at
Sainsbury’s!
