eBay…Dvd Sales At The Train Station?

Hi Ed WeBBers,

WELL, who would have thought there would be money to be made at a train station , i mean its not often you go to one only to be confronted by an unusual huge ‘box’ that has a TV on the front…

OK OK  what i should have said is it`s a ‘racket’ -

They are basically a huge DVD dispensing machine.

How it works: they show sample ‘clips’ on the TV on the front of the ‘box’, then you can choose a DVD which you like, and the machine spits out the DVD you’ve chosen (for a fee!) in return.

You can buy: DVDs, games and other stuff.

It’s a nice idea. Especially at a train station, where people may be ‘on the move’ and looking for something to occupy their time.

Plus, huge amounts of people a.k.a. ‘traffic’ moves through a busy train station.

OK, I’m not going to make a point today about DVDs or selling DVDs…

Rather, there may be ways you can apply this ‘model’ to what you’re doing now on eBay.

Ed….who in their right mind would think to carry a dvd player with them at a train station, so they could watch the film?

Doris…did you not know the ticket inspector carry’s one all the time, and some of the viewing is in braille!

GIVE ME STRENGTH..

SO, How

WELL?

I’m not going to say here.

Because I want to make a slightly different (but related!) point…

And that’s this: by keeping your eyes ‘peeled’ -and looking at other businesses, and other business models – you can frequently ‘swipe and steal’ great ideas that you can then apply to your own (eBay) business.

This is just one example – there are tons more.

In fact, every time you walk into a business, a shop, or buy something over the phone or online, there are things you can learn – and then apply to your eBaying.

What kinds of things?

Tons of things!

The point of this message isn’t to say – it’s to alert you to the fact that you should always keep your antennae up.

I do.

I might ask…

How is this business making plenty of cashola?

How is it getting customers, and getting more sales from those customers?

What kinds of things do they say in their marketing/sales ‘pitch’ to get people to buy?

How do they demonstrate their products?

Ask these questions enough times of enough businesses, and you’ll have tons of competition- beating information to work with when it comes to eBay.

Observe, understand…and translate/apply.

Whatever I’m doing online- I always look at who is doing what, and how.

And then see how I can apply that.

I’d urge you to do the same.

Best part: it costs nothing. Plus, it’s interesting to boot.

SOD the boots, lets chill with a book read..
