Turtlekeeping Tips By Ed On..Displaying The Tank!

Hi There,

Ed here…. with another installment on how to set up a natural enviroment for your turtles needs and must haves!

If you recall i mentioned the living space required to house your turtles in the form of an hundred gallon tank constructed of 10mm plate glass !

*REMEMBER NO MORE THAN TWO TURTLES FOR THIS SIZE*

We have to bear in mind that this size of tank will be extremely heavy, so to mount it we need a very strong stand foundation !

The stand can be constructed by yourself of a high standard and may i add with a very attractive look and finish to it ,simply visit this website and build your stand following this blueprint Click Here for a professional looking finish i am sure you would agree !

TIP:  Make sure that the stands measurements are correct to the exact size tank you have , an hundred gallon tank is the minimum requirement as i say for two turtles , and carefully follow the building  instructions !

Now to finish off this project we need a lid for the top of the tank also known as the canopy or hood and heres how Click Here .

On this instructional website it mentions the use of an aquarium calculator to use  so you can alter the measurements of the canopy wood sections needed when built to fit and cover your own tank size perfectly !

Between the two lid pieces i hinged them with a length cut to size of brass piano hinge (which can be purchased at any reputable ironmongers) then again at the back to a secured platform like so as in the websites instructions …

These are actual pic`s of one of my tank canopies !

Below Illustration 1 :  Note the secured back piece to the canopy to hinge the first of two sections of the lid , and how the second section folds over hinged to the first section resting on the back piece !

Below Illustration 2 : Notice clearly how  the finished lid looks with the two sections hinged together , then hinged to the secured back piece .

Also each section has two mesh vents , measure and mark all four vents on the lid evenly ,then simply jigsaw out the wood and cover the holes with the mesh cut to size with an half inch overlap to screw to the lid.

This stops a build up of condensation on the inside of the glass!

TIP : I reccommend that you purchase a  dehumidifier for the escaped condensation .

Also do please carefully take note of your own tank measurements for a perfect fit , we don`t want your turtle exhibition looking like its been built by a JCB with only one eye in the middle … ( sorry run out of medication!).

Well ye readers thats another installment closed on turtlekeeping, on the next episode of your turtle project i will be disscussing decor .. but don`t worry no wallpapering involved !

Now i`m off for a massage  by a sumo wrestler using a nail gun and steak mallet!

On the next post i will be reviewing another favourite marketer of mine who goes by the name of Tracey Edwards Ed your sister i hear you say , no Tracy is of ,the needs no medication Edwards Troop!

So stay tuned ..

TTFN….Ed.
